Megan went with me to On Target today. We took 200 rounds and four of the silhouette targets. It was a lot of fun. Megan really seemed to be having a great time. She did really good. After three or four clips she was putting the rounds very close to where she wanted them. It didn’t take her long to get the hang of the various things that you do to make the gun work. She didn’t even complain about the kick. I was a little worried about that, but she didn’t even seem to notice. I can’t wait to do it again.
It’s a good thing I can go to the firing range to practice my shooting. If I’m ever attacked by large pieces of paper with a silouhette of a man on the front I’ll know exactly what to do. I’ll know how to stop that rogue paper dead in its tracks.
Now that I’ve made a mockery of target practice, I’ll give the news. Actually there isn’t much to announce other than I fired another hundred rounds through my Glock today. I used the first half of the box to work on double taps from seven yards. The rest I used to start working on longer range firing. I shot the second silouhette at fifteen yards. Maybe next time I’ll work on some one handed shooting, and some left handed shooting.
On a side note, I did get some new ear protection, and that made a huge differance. I got them from Wal-Mart for about fourteen dollars. That’s not bad considering how nice they are.
Well, I’m going to watch a movie and clean my gun now. See you all later.
I went to the range again today. I feel like I did fairly well. I tried some new exercises. I got some cool targets that are a silhouette of the upper torso.
With the first half of the box of bullets I took, and the rest of the old hollow points, I worked on the 17 yard range. I tried to bring the gun back on target as quickly as possible for the next shot. My groupings are a little larger than they were last time, but I was shooting a lot faster, so I feel that is to be expected. Of the eighty five bullets in this round they all hit paper and only seven were outside the silhouette. All of those were the missed head shots, and the biggest miss was only two and a half inches.
With the second half of the box of bullets I worked on a three shot pattern. I put two bullets in the chest and one in the head. Of the fifty rounds I used for that exercise I only missed the paper twice. Of the ones that hit the paper only three were outside the silhouette. I did this exercise at roughly ten yards.
On a side note, I’m going to look into getting a new set of ear protectors. I noticed some very minor ringing in my ears. I tend to think that means there is possible hearing damage taking place. I’ll look into that over the next couple weeks before I go shooting again.
EDIT:
I forgot to mention I heard my gun go click for the first time. You just don’t expect that from a Glock. I was doing the double tap to the chest, and the second round never left the gun. I cycled the slide and it ejected the shell. I removed the clip and put the shell back in and tried again. The same shell didn’t fire a second and third time. I pulled it out again and looked at the back of the shell. It had a very large dent in the primer. I’ve heard that a shell that has been struck by the firing pin can go off up to ninety seconds after being hit. I put it back in the gun pointed down range and waited a little bit. I guess I just got a bad bullet. I would guess I’ve put almost a thousand rounds through my gun. One out of a thousand isn’t doing to bad.
